During these unprecedented times we are unable to provide the normal care that patients are used to. Our practice will remain open during normal working hours to provide advice to patients and where necessary provide care in the form of prescriptions for analgesics and antibiotics. Practices are working together and face to face consultations and treatment, if necessary, will be provided for clinically urgent problems at one of these practices after telephone consultation with a dentist.
If you are calling outside of normal hours and have an urgent dental problem, please consider if this could wait until the following day or over the weekend rather than accessing the out of hours services.
If you have an urgent dental problem out of hours and the problem is extremely severe please contact the out of hours service through NHS111.
If your dental problem includes uncontrolled bleeding and a swelling that is causing breathing problems this is an emergency and you should go to A&E.
Sports guards, or gum shields as they are sometimes called, are designed to be worn over your teeth to provide protection when playing contact sports such as rugby, hockey and cricket. Custom-made from a comfortable, pliable material, they keep your teeth safe if you suffer a blow to the face.
They can protect against chips, cracks or tooth loss, helping to avoid the need for more involved, expensive treatment, not to mention considerable pain and inconvenience.
We strongly recommend that you choose to have a tailor-made sports guard rather than the standard ‘boil and bite’ versions you can by in a sports shop. We take impressions of your teeth when you visit to make sure your sports guard fits securely and doesn’t slip when you least want it to.
When you come for your routine check-ups, we advise you bring your guard with you.
